It all started in 2001 when I had owned a historic home. I did not know that owning a historic home was a tumultuous and tedious task at times. Restoration is essential if you want to keep your home looking aesthetically pleasing and in working order with all the details intact. The house was a colonial style foursquare circa 1910. Of course I did not have any inclination or knowledge of how to work on these things let alone had owned any tools to repair the constant maintenance the house needed. So like everyone else I had several individuals come out to parlay with me on estimates. Oh and what a epiphany that usually was. I had no idea that getting the right skill was going to be so expensive or many of these individuals in service overcharge you so much. So I did the next best thing! I decided to acquire this knowledge myself. So I purchased the tools, sent pictures, and questions off to experienced historical masters and carpenters. What was indeed pleasant is that I had a plethora of replies from qualified historic carpenters. Purchasing the correct tools was indeed not the hard part, but getting the right tools for specific needs was interesting at times. Inevitably some tools to work on various historic areas of your home are not your usual tools. Our house needed immediate attention to most areas due to rod damage and leaks. Aluminum siding was installed at my guess probably in the 50's era and the wood beneath was rotting and falling apart due to lack of maintenance. So the boxgutters were the first thing to destruct and implement a plan for reconstruction. After removing all the aluminum siding from the house, I had a more promising foresight on what the house could eventually become. Remember to recycle your aluminum, it helped to pay for part of the restoration. Well after a few years of acquiring the knowledge of several types of historical styles and architectures. I also inherited the unique, in some cases, ways to repair historical needs. So I changed careers and became a specialist in Historic home restoration. Mind you my previous career was far and distant from anything of this sort. But after seeing how most companies or individuals gouge people for repair. I wanted to do my part in bringing real skill and historic repair back without breaking the wallet. Although getting great historical skill is expensive at times, We can stay well under any quote. The cause for cost in most cases is time. Things are tedious and painstakingly in need of patience more than anything. We are established in the German Village area in Columbus Ohio and work within a 50 mile radius. We are not a large company or subcontractor for anyone. We like to give our customers real quality and skill. Something that most seem only to talk about. We specialize in Historic Restoration, although we do a lot of other things also.
